Male Rhinoplasty in San Diego

The presence of a nasal hump, bulbous tip, flat nose, or disproportionately large nose can profoundly affect a man’s self-esteem and negatively impact his quality of life. Rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery, surgically alters the underlying nasal structure to provide a more balanced and attractive nose. At Coastal Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Batra performs male rhinoplasty so that men can achieve a greater sense of confidence in their facial appearance.

What Can Male Rhinoplasty in San Diego Achieve?

Improvementof Natural Deformities

Unfortunately, some men are born with poorly shaped noses. This can include humps or bumps, a drooping tip, wide nostrils, or a nose that is too short or too long for the face. Rhinoplasty tailors the appearance of the nose so that it is in balance with the surrounding facial features and achieves a masculine appearance.

Correctionof Facial Injury

Many men turn to rhinoplasty after facial trauma, such as a sports or auto injury. Rhinoplasty can repair damaged nasal structures to restore a balanced and healthy appearance.

Easeof Breathing

One of the nasal passages may be larger than the other due to the bone and cartilage in the middle of the nasal cavity (the septum) being crooked. A deviated septum can be hereditary, or it can result from nasal trauma. Obstructed airways due to a deviated septum can contribute to difficulties breathing and sleeping, snoring, headaches, and nosebleeds. Septoplasty to correct a deviated septum during rhinoplasty can improve the function of the nose.

Your Rhinoplasty Treatment

Preparing for Your Surgery

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia to promote safety and prevent any discomfort. During this procedure, the bone and cartilage of the nose are manipulated until the desired form is reached for a more masculine, attractive appearance. The bone and cartilage may be shaved down, or grafts may be added to create a more proportional and aesthetically pleasing nasal shape.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty makes all of the incisions on the inside of the nostrils to eliminate visible scarring afterward. Even though this technique provides a more limited view of the underlying nasal structures, subtle and significant changes can be achieved.

Open Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty places an additional incision at the base of the nostrils across the columella. This technique allows for an unobstructed view of the nasal structures and more substantial nasal changes.

Easing Your Concerns

Recovering rhinoplasty patients experience bruising and swelling on the nose and around the eyes. Nasal packing and splints are applied to support healing. Patients are required to rest with their head elevated for at least one week to help minimize swelling and allow proper blood flow. Swelling should subside enough for you to return to work and your normal activities after one week. More strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided for at least four weeks.
While rhinoplasty is performed under anesthesia to prevent pain during the surgery, postoperative pain and discomfort are expected. Patients may initially experience discomfort and difficulty breathing through the nose because of the bruising, swelling, and nasal packing. Oral pain medication and cold compresses can help control any postoperative discomfort.
The resulting scars from your rhinoplasty will depend on the techniques used. Closed rhinoplasty results in no visible scarring, as the incisions are made on the inside of the nostrils. Open rhinoplasty patients may develop a scar at the base of the nostrils where the external incision is made. This scar will be small and inconspicuous, and it will fade with time. Although the extent of the scar will depend on your body’s natural healing ability, you can help reduce the appearance of it by keeping the healing incision out of the sun.
Many factors determine the cost of rhinoplasty. These factors include the extent of correction needed, the techniques used, anesthesia fees, hospital fees, facility fees, and surgeon’s fees. Rhinoplasty requires skill and experience, and the final cost of your procedure will reflect that. Dr. Batra will provide you with a cost estimate during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my rhinoplasty results last?

Rhinoplasty provides the permanent correction of nasal deformities. Once you are fully healed, it is unlikely that the results of your rhinoplasty procedure will alter over time.

Am I a candidate for rhinoplasty?

Men who are unhappy with their nasal appearance and have a fully developed nose are potential candidates for rhinoplasty. Most men’s noses are fully developed between the ages of 16 and 18. Candidates should be in good overall health, have realistic expectations of their results, and be non-smokers. Men who smoke or use tobacco products should cease all use for at least four weeks before and after the surgery, as nicotine can increase your risk of complications.

How long will it take to see my results?

The results of your surgery will become apparent as soon as the bruising and swelling subside. For most patients, this occurs after six weeks. However, some internal swelling may persist for up to one year.

What risks are associated with rhinoplasty?

Male rhinoplasty is a safe and reliable surgical procedure that comes with minimal complications. While rare, some patients have experienced:
  • Adverse reactions to anesthesia
  • Bleeding
  • Prolonged swelling
  • Infection
  • Temporary loss of sensation
Patients can help reduce the chances of these complications by following all of Dr. Batra’s pre- and postoperative instructions.
