Our 5 Favorite San Diego Beaches

Uncategorized

San Diego residents know all too well the importance of finding a few good beaches to spend their summer days and nights communing with the sand and water. The team at Coastal Plastic Surgeons enjoys a good beach as much as the next Californian, and we have a few recommendations to help you find the hottest summer spots in the city. Check out this list of our five favorite beaches in San Diego to help you make the most of your summer under the California sun.

Coronado Beach

Probably the most beloved of all the San Diego beaches, this picturesque locale brings back memories of Marilyn Monroe’s classic film, “Some Like it Hot.” Whether you are looking for a romantic beach for two, a place for the whole family to play or the spot to get your feet wet with boogie boarding or surfing, Coronado Beach is the place to go. The beach is flat and wide and features gentler waves that make it a good choice for all ages.

La Jolla Shores

If you are ready for a day of water sports, La Jolla Shores just might be the perfect choice for you. Snorkeling, kayaking and diving are also available at this location, along with surfing in designated areas. The gentle waves make this a good spot for those wishing to learn a new sport or for families looking for a fun and relatively safe place to play. This beach offers approximately one mile of sand and abuts Kellogg Park if you are looking for a place to picnic.

Mission Beach

The two miles of breathtaking coastline known as Mission Beach is probably the closest to what you image a San Diego beach to be. The boardwalk boasts a wooden roller coaster along with plenty of shopping and dining opportunities. Get your fitness in with a bike ride or rollerblading along the boardwalk before checking out the sand and surf. Beach volleyball is a popular pastime here and surfing is allowed in designated areas.

Imperial Beach

This somewhat hidden gem gets its 15 minutes of fame every year by hosting the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition each summer. The wooden pier gracing the shoreline makes for a lovely stroll and the world-renowned Tijuana Estuary is within walking distance. The beach itself offers opportunities for swimming and surfing, as well as a few sightseeing opportunities for local art aficionados.

Ocean Beach

There is nothing conventional about Ocean Beach, where people and pets roam free together. In addition to a host of colorful locals you are likely to encounter, this beach offers a few pristine spots for fisherman. You can also explore the dining and shopping opportunities lining the beach, and enjoy sunset celebrations and even drum circles in this eclectic locale. Swimming and surfing are available, although there are strong rip currents in the area that will restrict your swimming options.

The beach is one of the favorite places for San Diego locals and visitors to spend their summer days and nights.
