Breast Reduction in Temecula

Women with overly large, cumbersome breasts understand both the physical and emotional side effects associated with them. Whether your disproportionate breasts developed during adolescence or as a response to pregnancies or weight gain, they can lead to embarrassment and an inability to find clothing that fits correctly. Overly large breasts are also responsible for physical discomfort and unsightly or uncomfortable skin rashes. Coastal Plastic Surgeons offers breast reduction in Murrieta for women who wish to increase their confidence, comfort, and quality of life by decreasing the size of their breasts. Dr. Batra tailors each Temecula breast reduction to the individual patient, allowing for ideal results to be matched with compassionate care.

Candidates for Breast Reduction

Women who are candidates for breast reduction surgery often experience pain or stress in the back, neck, shoulders, and chest; have divots in the shoulders from the pressure of bra straps; have itchy and unsightly rashes below and between the breasts; and are tired of the negative attention they receive because of their breasts. Candidates should be in good overall health, be willing to quit smoking both before and after the procedure, and have realistic expectations of their results. During your consultation, Dr. Batra will discuss all pre- and post-operative instructions to determine if you are a good candidate for breast reduction.

Treatment Options

Breast reduction surgery can be performed alone or in combination with a breast lift for women who are also experiencing significant breast ptosis (sagging). Breast reduction can benefit women who experience:

  • Emotional insecurities stemming from their disproportionate breasts
  • Painful tension in the neck and back from heavy breasts
  • Rashes underneath and between the breasts
  • Indentations on the shoulders from bra straps
  • Asymmetrical breasts
  • Headaches caused by neck tension

Procedure Details

General anesthesia is used during breast reduction to ensure a painless experience. This is an outpatient procedure, and you are required to have a driver present to get you home and stay with you for at least the first night of your recovery. Breast reduction removes excess breast tissue and breast fat to reveal a more proportionate breast appearance.

Coastal Plastic Surgeons offers three different incision options so that each patient will be perfectly matched with the correct technique. The incision used will depend on the amount of excess tissue and fat needing to be removed.

Donut Incision

This technique is ideal for women looking for minimal breast reduction. Here, an incision is made around the areola, and a small amount of breast tissue and fat is removed. This incision option does not allow for the repositioning of the nipple-areola complex; however, it does allow for less visible scarring, as the scars are hidden in the darker skin of the areola.

Lollipop Incision

This technique is ideal for women interested in a moderate breast reduction. Here, the same incision is made around the areola as with the donut incision, but an additional incision is made vertically from the areola to the bottom of the breast, creating an incision that looks similar to a lollipop. If the areola needs to be repositioned, Dr. Batra can do this by extending the incision so that the areola can be pulled to its new, correct placement. Although there is an additional incision, post-operative breast scarring is still minimal and easy to cover with clothing.

Anchor Incision

This incision is the most widely used for breast reduction surgery, as it allows for the highest level of correction and reduction. With this technique, a lollipop incision is combined with an additional horizontal incision made along the lower breast crease, where the breast meets the chest. This technique does result in significant scarring; however, this is easily hidden with underwear and bathing suits, and will fade with time.

Recovery and Results

Your breasts will be swollen, bruised, and sore following your procedure. You will be wrapped in a surgical bra that will help reduce swelling, increase blood flow, and aid in the healing process. Any discomfort can be remedied with oral pain medication. Most women feel up to returning to work and their daily activities after one to two weeks, and more strenuous upper body exercises can be resumed after four to six weeks.

The results of your breast reduction will become clear as soon as all post-operative swelling dissipates. These results are long lasting as long as they are paired with a healthy lifestyle and there are no major fluctuations in weight. Weight gain and additional pregnancies may impact the appearance of your breasts. After breast reduction, you will experience less physical discomfort stemming from your breasts and be able to enjoy a balanced, proportionate body frame.
