Labiaplasty in Temecula

Though it may be a sensitive topic of discussion, women of all ages can experience discomfort with the physical state of their labia. Pregnancies, genetics, and aging can all change the appearance of your labia and can contribute to excessive dryness, wetness, or irritation. Labiaplasty addresses the stretched, uneven, or lax appearance of the labia majora (the outer lips) or the labia minora (the inner lips) to restore a balanced, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing vulvar appearance.

Candidates for Labiaplasty

Some women experience laxity of the labia after childbirth, or due to genetics or aging. This laxity can prove to be both aesthetically displeasing and physically uncomfortable. Ideal candidates for labiaplasty suffer from the emotional and physical effects of enlarged labia. Candidates should be in good general health and have realistic expectations of their results. Candidates should also be non-smokers or be willing to quit for at least one month before and one month after surgery, as smoking can affect the rate of healing and the quality of your results. During your consultation in Murrieta, Dr. Batra will discuss what is expected both before and after the surgery and determine if you are a candidate for labiaplasty.

Treatment Options

While labiaplasty is generally performed alone, it can be performed in combination with liposuction to remove excess fat in the treatment area. Labiaplasty reduces the size of the labia and benefits women who are experiencing:

  • Pain while participating in sports, exercises, or sexual activity
  • Enlarged labia that show through clothing
  • Uncomfortable skin chafing

Procedure Details

Dr. Batra performs labiaplasty in Temecula as an outpatient procedure in an office setting. This treatment is often performed under local anesthesia. Traditionally, labiaplasty is performed using what is known as the trim method. Here, extra tissue on both the labia majora and labia minora is trimmed and removed before the incisions are sutured. Once healed, this procedure results in a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Recovery and Results

Bruising and swelling around the labia will be present after the procedure. Oral pain medication can remedy this discomfort. Patients traditionally feel up to returning to work within a few days; however, patients should avoid strenuous exercises, sexual intercourse, and wearing tampons for at least six weeks to allow the body to heal. To assist your healing process, please follow all of Dr. Batra’s post-operative instructions.

Your results will be apparent as soon as all of the bruising and swelling subside. The results of this procedure are known to be long lasting; however, factors such as additional pregnancies, weight gain, and the natural course of aging can affect the quality of your results.
