Procedure Details
Liposuction is generally performed under general anesthesia, though in some cases, local anesthesia coupled with a sedative may be used. The type of anesthesia is determined by the size and location of the targeted areas. During the surgery, small incisions are made near the treatment area. Various techniques are then used to loosen the fat and separate it from the muscles and skin.
The most common ways to loosen fat include laser, mechanical, or water-based techniques. A tube called a cannula is then inserted via the incisions, and the loosened fat cells are suctioned away. The larger incisions are sealed with sutures or stitches, while the smaller ones may be sealed with surgical glue. You will need someone to drive you home after the procedure, and we recommend that you have someone stay with you for a day or two following the surgery.
