Thanksgiving is not too far away, so let’s talk about the “Turkey Gobbler Neck.”
One of the most difficult areas to improve through diet and exercise is the “double chin.” The fat here is more resistant to exercise and typically there is a genetic component causing the excess fat deposit. Due to this genetic tendency, people may actually appear heavier than they really are.
If the skin is elastic and the patient is healthy, a quick liposuction procedure in the office can make a great improvement in the profile. Through a tiny incision the fat is suctioned out under local anesthesia. The patient should wear a neck garment for about a week. Within two to three days a difference is already apparent. If done in the office, the procedure will take about 45 minutes.
However, if the skin does not have adequate elasticity a neck lift may be required. This procedure is done in an operating room with general anesthesia and takes approximately 3 hours. Through several incisions hidden behind the ear, the neck muscles are tightened and the fat and loose skin are removed. The patient can go home that same day and the recovery is usually one week.
